If They Move Me, I Die
If They Move Me, I Die traces Mohamed Hozyen’s grandmother’s final days in Maspero Triangle, one of Cairo’s oldest neighbourhoods, now threatened by gentrification and disappearance. Returning to the area where he grew up, Hozyen photographs as both witness and participant, using his grandmother’s story to reflect a wider experience of displacement, memory and belonging. Through intimate portraits, fading facades and domestic spaces marked by presence and loss, the work becomes both farewell and protest: a meditation on home, erasure and the lives being written over in the name of progress.

Bio
Mohamed Hozyen is an Egyptian photographer whose work focuses on daily life, overlooked social realities and marginalised communities. For over a decade, he has used photography to engage themes that often remain unseen, with a practice rooted in social issues and lived experience in Egypt. He holds a diploma in photojournalism from the Danish School of Media and Journalism, received a scholarship from VII Academy in 2020, and was awarded a grant from the Arab Documentary Photography Program in 2021.
